The Oil Search Pacific Games Relay yesterday had a long day of driving through Kerevat and along the North Coast of the East New Britain peninsula after an evening of entertainment on Monday night with the Bainings Fire Dancers, at Gaulim.

First stop at the Toma-Vunadidir Telikom repeater station where the two communities, including the disabled, were out in force to celebrate the Relay.

The crowds were let into the facility where they were entertained by sing sing groups doing the Whip Dance, choirs and traditional drum bands.

The Gere singing group worked up a frenzy with their bamboo poles and the Baton before Telikom worker Alan carried the Baton to the top of the tallest communications tower, much to the delight of all the school children present.

Sir Paulius Matane spoke of the importance of retaining traditions and how the Relay journey across the country is helping make this happen.

The Relay drove to Kerevat past lines of school children and community groups to join all the schools of Kerevat plus many of the inmates from Kerevat Correctional Facility for a Baton line up at the town oval.

The Relay was then met at the border of Rabaul District by their famous dukduk men and from there the Baton travelled down the North Coast and went through village after village lined along the road, stopping off at war relic sites and at Submarine base.

The Relay took a breather up at Namanula Hill, the site of first colonisation before heading down into Rabaul town.

Unable to visit the Rapindik volcano site due to internal conflicts, the Rabaul Town Mayor then took the Baton along the main streets of Rabaul so that the community could all get a touch of the Baton.

A final stop along the Burma Road to the final resting place of Peter Torot and a visit to the Basilica named for him.

The Oil Search Pacific Games Relay will be run through Kokopo early this morning before heading off to the Autonomous Republic of Bougainville today.

The SP PNG Hunters riding a wave of high crescendo following some top class performances need to remain focused as they travel to Brisbane for their Round 15 Intrust Super Cup match against Tweed Heads Seagulls this Sunday.

Last Saturday was somewhat of a climax when they opened the brand new Sir John Guise Stadium in fine style in front of what was the biggest crowd they have played in front of since their debut last year. While it took the PNG side a while to settle down they finished with a bang giving the 15,000 screaming fans in Port Moresby their money’s worth with a resounding 34-12 victory over Souths Logan Magpies. That became the Hunters seventh consecutive win and the challenge becomes more pressing to maintain this impressive run when they face the Seagulls away from home at the Pigabeen Oval at 3pm on Sunday.

Before that they upset competition leaders Townville Blackhawks in Townsville in Round 11 and then returned from a bye to provide a similar dose on second- placed Ipswich Jets at Kalabond Oval in Round 13. Despite last Saturday’s grounding of the Magpies the SP Hunters still remain in fourth spot on 22 points behind second-placed Wynnum Manly Seagulls and Ipswich Jets. Both teams are also on 22 points following their mandatory two points from byes and maintain those positions due to superior percentage – worked out using points for and against.

Hunters coach Michael Marum has made a slight change to his starting line-up promoting Brandy Peter from the bench in place of Kato Ottio who has been ruled out due to injury.

He has brought in Warren Clare into the side naming him on the bench.

The full team is:

More than 300 business leaders, from the United Kingdom, as well as Europe and the United States, have been given new insight to the economic growth of Papua New Guinea and potential returns on investment.

In his keynote address at the inaugural United Kingdom - Papua New guinea Trade and Investment Forum in London on Tuesday, the Prime Minister, Hon Peter O'Neill CMG MP, provided perspective to ongoing economic development."Stability, responsible management and growth is what we offer to you," Prime Minister O'Neill told the opening session of the forum.

"Underpinning our economic growth are our core policies that are building a solid foundation for our country into the future

"These policies relate to free education, universal healthcare, improved law and order, and infrastructure development.

"The opportunities in Papua New Guinea are better than they have ever been.

"Papua New Guinea is open for business and I invite you and your colleagues to join with us is maximising these opportunities."

PM O'Neill highlighted the relevance of political stability and the independence of national institutions in Papua New.

"Our democracy remains a beacon of stability that is lacking in many developing countries.

"Stability is what that the country requires so that economic growth will continue as we give confidence to the business community.

"Alongside a stable political environment in Papua New Guinea, we also have an absolutely independent judiciary.

"The Central Bank is fiercely independent – as the Governor's statements on the economy continue to demonstrate.

"The Central Bank has made tough decisions but this ensures inflation is manageable, exchange rates are not subject to large fluctuations and interest rates continue to remain stable.

"Our leading national institutions are strong, independent and are shining examples of stability."

The Prime Minister provided perspective on the challenges that nation has faced over the past four decades particularly when it comes to service delivery in remote and regional areas.

"An important change we have made is to genuinely devolve decision-making away from the capital – to empower the levels of government closest to the people.

"This is principally district level administrations and local and village councils.

"That is bringing our democracy and the delivery of government services even closer to the people - especially our rural majority."

The forum was attended by senior managers from the financial and business sectors who were given the opportunity to engage directly with ministers and senior departmental officials to gain a stronger understanding of the potential offered by investing in Papua New Guinea.

Papua New Guinea  Prime Minister, Hon. Peter O'Neill CMG MP, had a private audience with Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, at Windsor Castle in the United Kingdom on June 16.

The audience took place in what is known as the "White Room" in the castle and afforded the Queen and the Prime Minister an opportunity to share perspectives of significance for Papua New Guinea and the Commonwealth.

The Prime Minister said it is not protocol to discuss the specific details of the audience with Her Majesty, but he said he was again impressed the Queen's depth of knowledge and fondness for Papua New Guinea. "Her Majesty is very familiar with the history as well as current developments in Papua New Guinea," PM O'Neill said.

"The Queen has visited Papua New Guinea in the past, many years ago she sailed to the country on the Royal Yacht Britannia.

"I hope that Her Majesty does have the opportunity to travel to Papua New Guinea again before long.

"Though we recognise that there are a number of countries that would also appreciate visits and she is not as able to travel as often as she did in the past."

The Prime Minister said the people of Papua New Guinea have a special place in their hearts for the Queen and the Royal Family.

"Most people have spent their whole lives only knowing one Monarch and they have great respect.

"He has fond memories of his visits to Papua New Guinea and he has travelled around our country.

"The Duke of York also was also well aware of a number of regional issues that are of importance to Papua New Guinea and the Commonwealth.

Yesterday the Oil Search Pacific Games Relay ran an early morning relay from Rabaul town to Kokopo along the scenic ocean drive, with over 140 runners, before departing East New Britain for the Autonomous Republic of Bougainville.

The Relay arrived at Buka airport to a traditional welcome with ladies washing the feet of all new arrivals into their province, to the great sounds of one of their large bamboo bands.

Oil Search Ambassador Francis Kabano handed over the Baton to representatives from the newly elected House of Representatives.

The Relay then headed around the island of Buka, with its first stop being the chamber at the House of Representatives where the Vice President, Patrick Nisira spoke of celebrating this gift of the Baton arrival as a symbol of unity.

From there the Baton sped across the island over new roads under construction and through cocoa and coconut plantations to St Pauls Primary at Malasang where all the kids were lined around the oval to touch the Baton.

The schools then kept coming as the Baton was taken to oval after oval for the children of the island to take part in the relay.

The fun also included the UNICEF Just Play day where the team were joined by World Vision mascot Dotty, a bamboo band playing the National Anthem and the children of Hahale primary singing “Imagine’.

The Baton was presented with a ceremonial canoe, on which it was then passed around the performing sing sing groups.

The Baton was then taken on a Relay around town with the games sponsors and community members taking part to run the Baton past the business district, the coconut oil mill and the market and banana boat wharves.

A canoe ride out along the busy and fast tidal Buka Passage to beautiful peaceful Sahano Island, the former centre of administration for the province finished the day.

Today the Oil Search Pacific Games Relay takes the long drive down the island of Bougainville to Buin.

BSP funds over K40million in loans to SMEs

$

BSP is committed to helping Small to Medium Businesses (SMEs) in Papua New Guinea grow and this is evident in the fact that more than 14,000 SME's are using the bank's Smart Business Account and have direct access to finance via the BSP Smart Business Loan.According to Dennis Konu, who heads the banks Smart Business Unit, since 2013, BSP has provided in excess of K40 million in loans to this valuable group of bank customers.  The Smart Business Loan product was introduced as part of BSP's strategy to empower the large number of small to medium businesses in Papua New Guinea.

"The product has generated considerable interest around PNG and is gaining momentum with over 800 loans funded. Despite the inherent risk associated with small business lending BSP has developed a process and criteria that suits the capacity of small businesses," Mr Konu explained.

The Smart Business Loan is accessible to registered SMEs that have traded for more than 12 months and use a business bank account. BSP extracts critical financial information about the business, from banking records to calculate how much the business can borrow.

The loan is aimed at SMEs that may experience difficulty in meeting certain commercial lending requirements such as providing financial statements, or contributing equity and loan collateral.

Owner of a local SME, Tapioca Delight, Ginia Siaguru, is a success story of the BSP Smart Business Loan product, which she used to purchase equipment that has helped her business grow.

She says: "Looking for Small Business Loans can be challenging, but with BSP, having an established banking relationship helped me to further explore other options like opening a Business Account. It is through this Smart Business Account that has paved way for us to take out a Smart Business Loan."

Another success story, Rossica Salika, who owns Rossal (Tual Immess) Limited, a tailoring business in Port Moresby shares similar sentiments to Ms Siaguru.

Rossica admits that it was difficult to seek additional finance to purchase new sewing machines to increase productivity. She had operated through her personal bank account.

Things changed for the better, when she was introduced to the Small Business Package and Loan products.

"The business was in operation for over 12 months, and my bank statements were easily obtained and supplied when I applied for a Smart Business Loan. BSP staff were helpful and assisted me in completing the application and ensuring all requirements were provided," she said.

Rossica used the Smart Business Loan to purchase two new sewing machines, hired two more seamstresses. Her business is growing. And with her business growing she is able to give local women an employment to "earn some money and support their family".

Oil Search Pacific Games Relay in Arawa, Autonomous Region of Bougainville

The Oil Search Pacific Games Relay today took off before dawn again, this time to visit Kangu Beach, the site of the terrible 1996 massacre during the crisis. The beach is now a peaceful spot with its jetty the main centre for cocoa trading and the weekly market visits from the nearby Solomon Islanders.

The beach and its history is really important to the Bougainvillean team travelling with the convoy as the Relay promotes unity and a brighter future.

The beach also signifies that the Relay has reached the furthest south-eastern part of the country, with the islands of our neighbour, Solomon islands, in sight.

The team then drove the three hours to Arawa along the coastal rocky road sometimes resembling a creek bed rather than the road.

In Arawa the town came together to run a Relay around the old abandoned parts of town and the resurrected sections of the town that are beginning to look like a residential suburb again.

The Relay included a slippery climb across a steel swing bridge and in true AROB fashion was carried through town inside a replica canoe, carried by the different groups that took part in the Relay.

Students from every school in town and the outskirts took part along with community youth groups dressed in shirts promoting peace through sport.

At each school the Relay would be welcomed, including with the traditional washing down and tapioca with coconut pasted across the team’s faces and legs, and with songs created by the students welcoming the Baton and our feathered friend Tura.

The Relay ended at Independence Oval to a raucous crowd and many sing sing groups from different ethnic areas.

The Oil Search Pacific Games Relay heads through Kieta before visiting the Papua New Guinea community in Cairns afternoon.

PNG Hunters set for Tweed Heads Seagulls

PNG aim 8 straight wins. Photo credit. PNG Hunters Media
Papua New Guinea Hunters  are set for the Intrust Super Cup round 15 clash  against Tweed Heads Seagulls as they aim for a record eighth straight win on Sunday.

The Hunters now have club record of seven consecutive wins after they brought down Souths Logan Magpies 34 - 12  infront of a record home crowd of 15 000 at the Sir John Guise stadium in Port Moresby last week.

The Hunters have made one change after  forward Kato Ottio sustained injury last week. Brandy Peter slots into the No. 11 jersey and aside from height and a little X-factor, the Hunters will lose nothing with the Southern Highlander’s inclusion.
Coach Michael Marum put his side’s scrappy performance last round down to nerves coupled with playing in front of 15,000 home fans at the Sir John Guise Stadium.
He said Ottio was not the only one feeling the pressure.
“I think the guys were not used to playing in front of such a large home crowd and the expectation and atmosphere affected their game,” Marum said.
“It was a night game and we haven’t played too many of those.
“To be fair, Kato was put in a tough situation with some of those carries where he was hitting the line just as he was getting the ball.”
Despite the high error count in their 34-12 win over the Magpies, Marum gave his side a pass taking into account the special circumstances.
On Sunday, he will not have any such excuses in terms of the crowd but the expectation is still there for his fourth-placed side to get the win on the road.
They play Seagulls, who will be spotting a useful halves combination of five-eighth Ricardo Parata  and halfback Shaun Carney, while winger Kalifa Faifai-Loa, pictured, and prop Damian Sironen are the other Gulls to watch.
The Hunters’ bench configuration could change with Marum naming an extended bench of seven players with forward Timothy Lomai still nursing a sore ankle and Henry Wan recovering from the effects of malaria the previous week.
Hard-running three-quarter David Lapua has been brought into the squad along with Nickson Borana, Edward Goma, Warren Glare and Ate Bina Wabo, who is back from a two-week suspension.
With injuries and sickness taking the edge of the pack’s “ruggedness” it will be up to lead metre-gainers Esau Siune and Enoch Maki to pick up the slack.

The match will be broadcast live on TVWAN from Piggabeen Sports Oval in Tweed Heads, NSW, on Sunday from 3pm.

Polye calls for independent investigations into Education department

PNG  Opposition Leader Don Polye has called for an independent investigation into the missing 50 million-Kina in Tuition Fee Free funds.
Don Polye's call follows this week's revelation of the missing funds by the Education Minister, Nick Kuman, to fraud.
Mr. Polye said the investigation team should not involve anyone from the government, but include development partners, donors, banks and the private sector.
He said currently all investigations set up by the government has always been biased and its findings were never conclusive because it has representatives from the government and its line agencies in them.
Mr. Polye said once investigations are devoid of government involvement, it will be more concluding and perpetrators will be brought to justice and this will instill fear in the lives of offenders.

Court found  former Police boss guilty for not arresting
Prime Minister Peter O'Neill.
Former PNG Police Commissioner Geoffery Vaki has been found guilty of contempt by the National Court .
The court ruled Vaki deliberately and wilfully prevented the arrest of Prime Minister Peter O'Neill in June last year.
The warrant of arrest issued on June 12th, 2014 by the Port Moresby District Court remains effective to date, but a current judicial review proceedings filed by the prime minister at the National Court is on foot and will prevent it from being executed.
Sir Salamo Injia ruled the warrant of arrest was properly issued on June 12, 2014 after proper information was presented. Therefore it should have be effected without delay then.
It was further stated, Vaki's actions following his appointment was suspicious.
This includes Vaki applying back to the district court to dismiss the arrest warrant, instructed four police officers to protect the prime minister, told the media that the the prime minister will not be arrested as yet and delayed the arrest questioning its validity.
Sir Salamo said there was no need for him to do that, and all this amounts to contempt.
Vaki was found guilty on four counts and is out on own recognition bail.
He will appear again in court next Thursday for penalty submissions.
The prime minister was wanted by police for questioning over his alleged involvement in millions of kina paid to Paul Paraka lawyers in 2011.
Meantime, former crimes director Thomas Eluh says, this is the saddest day ever for the police force.
He says, its history in itself as nothing like this has ever been done before with junior officers taking their seniors to court and succeeding. NBC News/PNG Today

The PNG Barramundis have created history yesterday after coming back to beat the Netherlands by 5 wickets despite trailing at stumps on day 2 by 239 runs, in Amsterdam Netherlands.
Starting off the second innings strongly was opener Lega Siaka, (49) who smashed 44 of 49 runs in boundaries. Unfortunately that momentum was short-lived with both Siaka and opening partner
Tony Ura falling just before stumps leaving the Barramundis needing another 239 runs over the last two days.
PNG Barramundis returned on day 3 with Assad Vala* (124) and Mahuru Dai (91) putting on a massive partnership which put the team back on the pathway for ultimate victory. Paul van Meekeren (3/44) was the outstanding bowler for the Netherlands.
An overexcited PNG Barramundis Captain Jack Vare-Kevere said that he can't speak highly enough of the boys because it was a very special day for the team.

PNG Hunters have sent signal to the Queensland Cup competition that they are a force in 2015 premiership contention after holding  off fast finishing Tweed Heads Seagulls 32 - 24 in an entertaining  round 15 match of the Intrust Super Cup. It is also a history for the new Hunters club to win eight straight wins in a row.  The Hunters are the only team that have beaten competition front runners like the Townsville Blackhawks and Ipswich Jets.

The Hunters were first to score through Watovo Puara and Zemings found the uprights to take the early lead 6 - 0. They extended the lead with another try to 12 - 0.  The home side regrouped and fought back with two tries but unsuccessful conversion in of the tries showed  them trailing  12 - 10. The Hunters shot a penalty goal to extend the lead 14 - 10 to half time.

In the second half, the Tweed Heads Seagulls scored within five seconds after a short kick off that levelled the score 14 - 14 with unsuccessful conversion. The home side collected another two points from a penalty to steal the lead from the Hunters 16 - 14.

A nice break by Thomson Teteh  and an inside pass to halfback Ase Boas showed the Hunters scored again to reclaim the lead 20 - 16. Another try by Hunters debutant Glare extended the lead to 24 - 16 after Zemmings did not find the uprights.

The home side regrouped and fought hard with two quick tries to level the score 24 all with eight minutes left on the clock.

But this deadlock was broken by Hunters hooker  Watovo Puara after he side-stepped few lazy Seagulls forwards to score next to the uprights. Zemmings found the uprights and Hunters extended their lead to 30 - 24.  A penalty was awarded to the Hunters after Willie Minoga was taken high. With successful conversion from Zemmings showed the Hunters registered eight wins in a row with a score of  32 - 24 on full time.

The Hunters will host the Capras next week in Kokopo.

Bougainville demands PNG pay up $US143 million

The ABG President Chief Dr. John Momis says that the Papua New Guinea Government owes Bougainville over K400 million  in errors for Development Grants as stipulated under the Bougainville Peace Agreement.

Speaking at the Inauguration ceremony, DR. MOMIS said that he would like to meet with the National Government as soon as possible to settle this issue.

DR. MOMIS said that since 2011, the National Government has been giving ONE HUNDRED MILLION KINA annually but these are tied grants which the ABG has no power to spend according to its priorities.

He said if the Development Grants are paid then the ABG would be in a better position to implement its plans to fast tract development programs on Bougainville.

DR. MOMIS said that the ABG in the next five years will try to move into fast-tracking economic activities to raise its internal revenue base which has now reached 30 MILLION KINA.

He says since 2011 Port Moresby has been giving Bougainville about $US36 million dollars a year but he says these are tied grants which the ABG has no power to spend according to its priorities.

He said once the development grants are paid the ABG would be in a better position to implement its plans to fast track development programmes on Bougainville.

Mr Momis says over the next five years the ABG will try to fast-track economic activities to raise its internal revenue base.

At the moment that base is just under $US11 million dollars.

In the course of the visit, the Prime Minister, Hon. Peter O'Neill CMG MP, met with a range of business representatives and the President of the European Council, H.E. Mr Donald Tusk.

These meetings also included a business breakfast, hosted by the French Business Confederation, with thirty representatives from companies interested in initiating or expanding their operations in Papua New Guinea.

"There is significant interest in Papua New Guinea from the business community in the cities our delegation visited, and we must convert that interest into tangible business engagement," Prime Minister O'Neill said.

"We cannot think of Europe as being too far away to matter.

"Europe offers a important market particularly for our agricultural products.

"There is also tremendous potential for strategic partnerships in areas that include banking, energy and resources.

"In my meeting with senior executives at Total S.A., they reaffirmed their commitment to developing the third train of LNG in Papua New Guinea.

"Total is a great example of a European company that recognises the potential for investment in Papua New Guinea.

"Total is already employing Papua New Guineans and foreign workers and this number is expected to reach 10,000 at the peak of the construction project.

"With one of the fastest growing economies in the world and being a country with ongoing political stability, businesses are interested in investing at Papua New Guinea."

The Prime Minister said his meeting with European Council President, H.E. Donald Tusk, also provided an opportunity to deepen and widen interaction on important issues. This includes European concerns in relation to fisheries.

"We discussed action being taken in Papua New Guinea to combat illegal fishing," Mr O'Neill said.

"Papua New Guinea takes these concerns seriously and we are making improvements in our internal systems.

"Both the European Union and Papua New Guinea want to deal with illegal fishing and we are cooperating to achieve a positive outcome.

"President Tusk and I further had the opportunity to further discuss visa issues. We are working towards having improved visa arrangements for Papua New Guineans travelling to EU countries."

The Prime Minister said following the success of the UK-PNG Trade and Investment Forum last week, and the positive reception in Paris, future forums are likely to include France.

"Next year we are looking at the trade and investment forum being held in Paris and alternate this with London each year."

The Prime Minister thanked the Governments of Belgium and France for their support in facilitating the visit that took place on 17-19 June 2015.

After 19 years of attempt by PNGDF to get the ex combatants to release the bodies of armies who have died during the Bougainville Crisis, today they were finally released and flown out of Bougainville.
It was an emotional day. It was also a prayer answered for families and the PNGDF and everyone who have asked for the release of the bodies since the armies were first discovered to be missing in action (MIA).
The three fallen heroes went missing in action (MIA) on October 22, 1996 by the Bougainville Revolutionary Army during peace negotiations in Siara, North Bougainville.
In 2010, after much searching, contacts were re-established with ex combatants in North Bougainville and it was discovered that the remains of the three members, were in custody of ex combatants in the Hahon and Kunnua areas of North Bougainville.
Former Vice President and Member for Selau Mr Joseph Watawi released the three bodies on behalf of the current and re-elected ABG President Chief Dr John Momis.
President Dr John Momis, Vice President Patrick Nisira, Deputy Speaker Francisca Semoso and other members including the Chief Secretary Mr Monovi Amani with the Bougainville Police Service, received the PNGDF soldiers and officers at the Buka airport.
Mr Watawi spoke with sadness and appreciation of the release of the three armies, Corporal Horace Marco Maino, Private Jimmy Jula and Private Raymond Waia.
He spoke of Raymond as someone who was a good person and also a friend. And that the negotiations with the former combatants to release the bodies were quite difficult but today all things were made possible under the grace of God.
On behalf of the President, the people of Bougainville and Selau, Mr Watawai released the three bodies including those who their bodies could not be located or have floated on sea. He released the bodies from Bougainville back to their families and love ones unconditionally.
The bodies were flown to Port Moresby and received by the Deputy Prime Minister Leo Dion.

MPs are lawmakers and not cheque book carriers and basic service deliverers

By Lucas Kiap

Members of Parliament (MPs) are supposed to be lawmakers and not cheque book carriers promising to deliver basic government services.

Implementing government policies and delivering basic services is the function and the responsibility of the public service mechanism in the country and not MPs.

How did this happened?

Basic services is not rocket science.

A drug addict or a street seller can be voted into parliament to deliver basic services becuse money (budget) for basic services should be there regardless of whoever is voted into parliament.

People have the right to basic government services by law under the constitution. That's the reason why there is an elected government in a democracy, serving the people and not themselves.

No MP or government should promise people to deliver basic services or take credit for providing basic services when people already own everything including the MPs and the government.

MPs are supposed to be legislators, lawmakers and not basic service delivers or cheque book carriers. MPs supposed to make laws, pass legislations, write policies, and development plans. MPs supposed to be the defult check and balances making sure that public servants are implementing government policies and delivering basic services to the people. MPs supposed to live among the people and make sure their interests are properly served. MPs supposed to debate issues, laws and bills in the parliament before being passed. Being in the government does not necessarily mean you have to be silent on critical issues of national concern and vote for every bill to be passed.

What kind of democracy have we become over the 40 years? Are we confused in running the country? Are we deceiving the illiterate rural people? Are we simply ignorant or are we lost?

We have more serious issues for the MPs to debate in the parliament and address them. The following are some serious issues affecting this country for the last 40 years and which every MP should be engaging in addressing them:

1. Job creation - more than 85 % of the population still unemployed and live in rural villages untouchable by basic services;

2. Energy security - the growth of the country needs cheap and reliable energy;

3. High cost of living - PNG is one of the most expansive countries in the world;

4. Food security - a healthy population will increase productivity and reduce medical costs. Reduce high cost of living;

5. External and internal security - buildup of Indonesia military in the border is a concern. Tribal fights and ethnic violence is a grave concern;

6. High cost of housing - the country needs cheap and affordable housing for every income level;

7. Law and order problem - high unemployment and poverty is the cause of most law and order problems. The defense force and police force in the country becoming a problem too;

8. Economic growth - diversification of the economy to grow every economic potential;

9. Infrastructures - connecting up all provinces to boost traded and trousim;

10. Corruption - trapping millions in poverty and contributing to the law and order problems; and

11. You can add onto this list

MPs supposed to be discussing these issues and not becoming obsessed with cheque books.

We have lowered the standard of politics so low to a point where MPs are now becoming mare cheque book carriers taking away the function and responsibility of the public service servants.

Why MPs are becoming too obsessed with cheque books and basic service delivers is a concern now.

Should they be interested in the K15million DSIP funds in the pretext of providing basic services?

Because of the MP's obsessed with cheque books and the K15million DSIP, the ruling party in the government is now using the DSIP funds as a bite to attract more MPs into the government in the pretext of stability. This is becoming a major concern for MPs to address in the parliament.

If there is any better use of the DSIP funds then definitely it is MP's pocket money to use on anything they wish as there are no strict monitoring and compliance mechanisms in place to trace and monitor the usage of funds and show physical evidence of projects built.

What the country needs is a standardized and nationalized development concept for every provinces and districts to distribute the country's wealth fairly and equally without blaming MPs for not delivering basic services. Whether MPS perform or not must not be an issue or excuse. The development model should automatically trigger development in every districts without necessarily the input of the local MP. This is another serious issue we have in the country blaming MPs for not delivering basic services when those MPs supposed to be investigated and prosecuted.

Delivering basic services is not rocket science and this must be understood by the people. We are not going to preach forever about delivering basic services. We must talking about progressing and advancing the country to a developed country.

We are not going to go on like this forever blaming ghosts and wrong leaders for the missing of billions and lack of basic services.

This must end and we must end this in 2017.

Papua New Guinea's National Flag Carrier, Air Niugini is set to make its maiden commercial flight into Vanuatu capital Port Vila, this Wednesday 24th June.
This comes as Air Niugini seeks to open up new routes in the Pacific Region and other overseas destinations.
The new flight is been made possible under the tripartite code share arrangement between Air Vanuatu and Air Solomon Islands.
Air Niugini will use its Fokker 70 series to expand this service to Port Vila via Honiara, Solomon Islands, as announced by its Board Chairman, Sir Frederick Reiher, earlier this year.
"Re-fleeting program, Air Niugini is undertaking over the next three to five years. It will further expand the use of jet aircraft on a major domestic route to give our passengers are fast and more comfortable service between our major centers. But long range capability of the aircraft will also enable the Fokker-70 to operate Port Moresby-Cairns route as well as new routes to key centres in the Pacific. I am pleased to note that following a recent tripartite code-share agreement between Air Niugini and Solomon Air and Air Vanuatu, Air Niugini will commence flights to Vila, Vanuatu via Honiara in early June with the Fokker-70. And hopefully beyond to New Zealand."
Sir Frederick said the arrangement is aimed at strengthening and promoting understanding partnership between the Melanesian Spearhead Group airline industry.
