The Malaoro supermarket in Port Moresby's East Boroko suburb has been destroyed by fire this morning. According to eyewitness, a huge smoke engulfed the building starting from the warehouse.
Hundreds of people who came for shopping and for market rushed out in panic leaving behind their items. The nearby Malaora market was completely deserted as people ran for cover.
Boroko firemen arrived within half -an hour after the fire alarm was raised and started combating the fire with water hoses.
A quick action from Police also prevented opportunists from looting the shops.
